Ultra Filtration Plant( UF):
An Ultra Filtration (UF) Plant is a membrane-based water treatment system that removes suspended solids, colloids, bacteria, and some viruses from water using a semi-permeable membrane.

🔹 What is Ultrafiltration?
Ultrafiltration is a pressure-driven process where water passes through membranes with pore size ~0.01 to 0.1 microns.
⦁ Allows: water + dissolved salts
⦁ Removes: turbidity, pathogens, fine particles, macromolecules
🔹 Working Principle
⦁ Raw water enters the UF system
⦁ Pre-treated water (after screening/clarification) is fed under pressure
⦁ Water passes through UF membranes (inside-out or outside-in flow)
⦁ Impurities are retained on membrane surface
⦁ Clean permeate water is collected
⦁ Periodic backwash / air scouring / chemical cleaning (CIP) removes fouling
🔹 Key Components
⦁ UF membrane modules (hollow fiber / PVDF)
⦁ Feed pump
⦁ Backwash pump / air blower
⦁ Cartridge filter (optional)
⦁ Chemical dosing system (NaOCl, citric acid, etc.)
⦁ Control panel (PLC-based automation)
⦁ Skid-mounted piping system
🔹 Types of UF Systems
⦁ Pressurized UF (Skid type) – compact, industrial use
⦁ Submerged UF – used in large plants, sewage treatment
🔹 Advantages
⦁ High removal efficiency (99%+ turbidity & bacteria)
⦁ Consistent water quality
⦁ Low chemical requirement
⦁ Compact footprint
⦁ Fully automated operation
⦁ Ideal pre-treatment for RO systems
🔹 Applications
⦁ Drinking water treatment
⦁ Pre-treatment for RO plants
⦁ sewage treatment plant (STP)
⦁ effluent treatment plant (ETP)
⦁ Cooling tower makeup water
⦁ Industrial process water
⦁ Municipal water supply
🔹 Typical Design Parameters
⦁ Flux rate: 30–120 L/m²/hr
⦁ Recovery: 90–95%
⦁ Operating pressure: 1–3 bar
⦁ SDI (output): < 3
